How To Postpone And Plan Your Wedding Amid Coronavirus Concerns
As we continue to keep an eye on current affairs related to COVID-19, we’re aware that many of you may be making tough decisions regarding your wedding date. We feel heavyhearted that you’re facing this, but we are here to do what we can to make sure the wedding day of your dreams still happens, whether it’s on the same date or at a later date. Whether you’re choosing to postpone your wedding date - or plan on keeping it - we’ve outlined some steps to help you in this process.
If you choose to postpone your wedding date…
The first step is to reach out to all of your wedding vendors as soon as possible! Your venue, photographer, DJ/entertainment, caterer, planner, wedding officiant, videographer, rentals… anyone who is involved with helping plan your big day. As pros, they’ll be able to offer any additional guidance, as well as help secure a future date for your event. As Saturdays tend to be already reserved or quickly booked up, you may want to consider rescheduling for Friday, Sunday, or a weekday.
Make sure you read through your contracts with your vendors so you have a clear understanding on their policies regarding deposits, full/partial refunds, etc. In special circumstances such as this, some vendors may be a little more flexible and can allow payments to be transferred to another date.
Reach out to your guests and let them know of your plans to postpone. We know this this may feel like a difficult step but be assured that your guests will understand and will want to support you and your decision! Catch them up with what’s been going on, communicate your decision to postpone, and share any details you can regarding the new date or any other updates. You can send printed cards, message them via your wedding website, or call them individually. If you have a wedding website, don’t forget to update the details there as well.
Take a good look at your wedding insurance policy to get a clear understanding about what is covered under your policy.
Reassess your honeymoon plans. If you have any travel plans for your honeymoon where you’ll be going to a country with travel restrictions, be sure to cancel or reschedule those flights. To make things easier, many airlines are waiving rescheduling and cancellation fees for recently booked trips.
Consider alternative ceremony options, if you’d still prefer to get officially married on your event date! Allow a little bit of distance between people where you can, such as setting up ceremony seats a little further apart.
Chat with your caterer about the best way to minimize risk during dinner service, such as going with a plated dinner service instead of buffet or family style.
Set up hand sanitizer stations and simply practice good hygiene by washing your hands.
