Metropolitan Weddings Podcast: Creating A Great Wedding Experience

Proud moment! Owner/Lead DJ of Elevate Entertainment, Broc Barton, was recently invited by Metropolitan Weddings to share exclusive tips and insights for engaged couples on how to plan a memorable wedding reception experience. Huge thank you to host Dawn Williams and Meg Rallis for featuring Elevate Entertainment as a guest speaker on your podcast series, Engaged: Wedding Advice For Couples, a podcast dedicated to educating couples with information from weddings professionals in the industry.

Here are some of the top takeaways from the podcast! Click here to listen to the full episode. Available on Spotify and iTunes.

  1. Creating an “experience” at your wedding is so much more than a DJ simply pressing play on a playlist.

There’s a common misconception out there that DJs are simply at events to play music, which has unfortunately led to an entire market of DJ/entertainment built solely on this idea (think, iPod DJ concept). However, a DJ focused on “experience creation” is a whole event approach. A great DJ is able to read a room and think through how guests will be engaged throughout your event.

  2. For a custom DJ experience, expect DJ packages to run around $700 - $2,000. Nationally, the average is ~$1,142.

According to a wedding magazine report, when asked what they remember most from a wedding, most guests say the entertainment. However, some couples make the mistake of placing DJ/entertainment as a lower priority on their budget when it actually has a major impact on your wedding experience. Bottom line: don’t skimp on your entertainment!

  3. Consider unique entertainment offerings for your wedding that will set it apart, such as a DJ + Live Band Hybrid Experience.

Some couples feel like they have to choose between having a DJ or a live band at their wedding reception. With the DJ + Band Hybrid service, you get the best of both worlds. Guests get to experience the massive energy and excitement of a live band/concert experience as well as the engaging personality of the DJ/emcee driving the event.

  4. DJs are not weddings planners but they do help facilitate the reception.

As the event emcee, they are present to help coordinate the flow of the reception, so that the bride and groom are able to relax and enjoy their special day.

  5. It’s important to feel comfortable with your DJ and his/her personality.

Listen closely to how the DJ describes his or her services. Make sure you jive well with that persona or company because that person is going to be running your event and will have a massive impact on your day. Pick someone that you feel you have a sense of confidence that they’ll be committed to your vision for your day. Pick someone who you’re certain will be able to deliver the experience you want, someone you know will be able to carry out the vision for your event seamlessly.
