Creative Grand Entrance IDeas
The grand entrance has the power to completely set the tone for the rest of the evening, so make it count!
It’s a somewhat common mistake to wait until after dinner for the party to start. Waiting until after dinner can actually make it a little more difficult to bring the energy level up during the dancing portion of your wedding. With a memorable grand entrance, the energy level is set right from the beginning, filling the room with excitement for the ensuing festivities and celebration!
From our experience, the way you execute the grand entrance really does make a difference on the mood of the guests. Our DJs love working with our couples to make sure their reception starts off perfectly and have quite a few creative, fun strategies up their sleeves to make it happen. If you’re looking for something a little more engaging than having an emcee call out name after name when introducing the bridal party, check out these creative, humorous ideas for a grand entrance that are sure to keep your guests hilariously entertained!
Quick Descriptions
This is a fun, easy way to liven up the grand entrance a bit more. As each member of the bridal party enters the room, the DJ shares an accompanying “quick description” that gives the guests an idea of the nature of the relationship between that friend and the newlyweds ie. brother of the bride, best friend in college, etc.
Nicknames (a.k.a. Bridal Party “Roast”)
Nicknames, or the “Roast”, is a more humorous version of Quick Descriptions. In this situation, the DJ will work with the bride and groom ahead of time to come up with funny nicknames or descriptors for each groomsman/bridesmaid. Oftentimes, it’s a nickname that pokes fun at the person that brings the crowd to laughter ie. “She’s known for having one too many at happy hour…”
Mini Flash Mob
If you’re looking to inject some seriously epic energy into your event, ask your DJ to start a mini flash mob following the grand entrance. It’s a sure fire way to add some electricity from the very start so that guests know it’s time to celebrate!
Epic Light Show
For this unique intro, ask your DJ to build a custom light show for the grand entrances by programming the uplighting all around the room so that it flashes in bright colors. Take note that this may only work well at certain venues where uplighting can be seen clearly throughout the room.
Sports-Themed Entrance
This is a pretty popular, epic way to introduce the bridal party. Typically, the bridal party comes in, stands in two lines and puts their arms up, forming an arch for the bride and groom to run through. Throughout the grand entrance, the DJ plays a popular sporting event song (Sirius is commonly used) as the crowd cheers everyone on.
Unconventional Arrival
If you have a flair for the dramatic, take your arrival to the next level! Make use of fog machines or giant confetti cannons. Or depending on location and venue rules, make arrangements to be dropped off at the venue entrance by helicopter or boat!
Thunderstruck Drinking Game
This grand entrance centers around the AC/DC song “Thunderstruck” and the drinking game inspired by that song! The entire bridal party gathers at the front of the room to participate in the game, giving the crowd some hilarious entertainment to kick off the night. Don’t worry, usually the DJ has ways of making sure the bridal party doesn’t get too tipsy (ie. filling the cups only halfway with beer)!
