Keep the energy level high and the dance floor packed by sprinkling in a few line dances during your reception! From popular classics such as the Cupid Shuffle and Macarena to brand new twists on the 2-step, there are plenty of line dances to consider. Our DJs reveal which line dance is their personal fave and why it could be the best line dance for your wedding!
DJ Josh’s Choice: Wobble
The Dance: If you’ve been to any wedding, school dance or party since 2008, then you’ve most likely heard this song at least a few times. This line dance includes a little bit of everything, from hip shaking, 2-stepping, rolling arm motions, and plenty of laughs and good times.
Difficulty Level: While the dance may sound like a lot of different movements, anyone can pick this dance up! It’s one of the easiest and most hype ways to get people out on the floor and dancing at your party.
Why It’d Be Perfect For Your Event: This is one of those really great songs where once you hear just the intro of the song, you can see people racing to the dance floor without any hesitation! So if you’re looking to keep your dance floor busy all night long, then I’d definitely recommend having this one on your list. It’s a fun, high-energy song and there are so many ways to keep the dancing going after it.
DJ Denny’s Choice: Apache (Jump On It) by Sugarhill Gang
The Dance: This is an extremely fun, easy dance that everyone can participate in! With your hands on the hips, you pop your hips in a circular motion along with the beat. Then you put your right arm up in the air and spin in a circle when the chorus hits with “Jump on it!” A popular way to start it off is to have the men do the first round of dance moves, then have the women repeat it, before everyone joins in together.
Difficulty Level: I’d give it a 2 out of 10 (And if you’ve seen Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, then this will be super easy)!
Why It’d Be Perfect For Your Event: The energy level of this song is massive. It can easily double the level of energy in the room and allow guests that don’t know how to dance to join in and have fun. Because of this, the song is best played during the dance portion of your reception to help build energy toward the climax. Whether your guests are great dancers or just like being part of the fun and excitement, this song is a great way to get everyone on their feet!
DJ Zach’s Choice: Cupid Shuffle
The Dance: The Cupid Shuffle came out in 2007 by the artist Cupid and is often compared to the Cha Cha Slide. It’s four basic steps that are repeated throughout the entire song. You start off by taking four steps to the right, then four steps to the left. When you hear “Now, Kick!” you kick your right leg out, then your left leg out, 4 kicks in total. Then lastly, you “Walk it by yourself”. This is your cue to make a 90 degree turn to the left while walking in place. Repeat the steps to keep the dance going. You are now a DANCING MACHINE.
Difficulty Level: This is an easy-to-learn, fantastic dance for anyone, but especially for those who don’t always know how to break it down on the dance floor, because the dance step instructions are literally in the lyrics of the song! Simply follow along to the song and before you know it, guests of all ages are killing it on the dance floor!
Why It’d Be Perfect For Your Event: The Cupid Shuffle has become a crazy popular staple for wedding receptions and is a fun interactive dance that can turn any dance floor into a line dance craze. If you want great dance floor involvement, this is the one!
