Wedding Trends of 2020

Every year brings new, exciting trends in makeup, decor, entertainment and everything in between! We’ve asked several wedding professionals to reveal the top trends to keep in mind for 2020 weddings. Get ready to get back into wedding inspo mode with these exclusive hot tips!

Wedding trend of 2020 Flower Crowns

All about braids and flower crowns.

Trend spotted by Kelsey Kukal-Keeton from KKD Beauty Cafe

“Brides continue to keep a simple approach to hair and makeup. ‘Elegant Chaos’ is what we like to call it. Braids still tend to be a part of most hair styles, adding an element of texture and intricate design to a simple style. Soft loose waves over curly hair. Half up/half down hair styles or loose updos with soft falling pieces of hair to give a casual yet elegant look. What’s most exciting is that florals and floral crowns seem to be making an even bigger appearance! Floral crowns help add unique color and design to match the wedding theme. Adding simple touches like babies breath or greenery, a simple flower, or a floral crown can soften and create a little more dimension and contrast to the hair design.”

Go outside (and inside) the box with catering.

Trend spotted by Patty Wingo from Simply Delicious.

“At the beginning of this year, if you asked me what the food trends would be, I would have shown you examples of huge beautiful grazing tables, filled with everything from artisan cheese, fresh fruits, and cured meats to sweet endings of bite-size desserts, cookie bars, and everything in between. Post COVID, we have had to adapt. Grazing tables have become individual plates of delicious charcuterie bites, artistically displayed.

Plated and served meals are the biggest go-to trend this year. However, it’s not your only option if you are willing to think outside the box! Or is it inside the box? Bento boxes, bamboo containers, skewers, sushi trays, kraft boxes, and personalized containers are becoming plausible options. Creativity in the presentation and comfort in the food make guests feel well fed and appreciated!

Buffets can still take place in this new era. Staff the buffet to serve your guests and control quantity/quality. This way, guests are protected from anyone contaminating the food. It will also give your guests the confidence that their food has been prepared and served properly.”

Wedding trends for ceremony in 2020

The “Minimony” is the new ceremony.

Trend spotted by Dee DePriest from Officially Wed

Because of COVID-19 restrictions, couples having big weddings have had to rethink their ceremony plans. Thus, the “minimony” was born! The minimony is a scaled down version of your actual wedding on your original wedding date, with a sequel wedding at a later date. As dates are getting pushed out later and later, many couples are still opting to have their ceremony on their original date, simply on a smaller scale. Minimonies usually have around 10 to 15 very close friends and family in attendance. Couples can even choose to live stream the ceremony so that guests can still witness the event virtually!

The limelight belongs to lounges.

Trend spotted by Jaime Lile from Vintage Rental Company

“One of our favorite wedding trends that seems to be developing more and more this year is the addition of lounges to couples’ decor list! They’re a great way to create a cozy, inviting atmosphere on your special day. We love the way that you can use them to carry on your design elements in a personal way. They are also a considerate option for older guests to have a comfy place to spend the evening. We always recommend setting lounges up near the dance floor or bar area to get the best use out of them. Lounges offer a comfortable place to sit and take in the evening, not to mention the fantastic photo op!”

Makeup wedding trend of 2020

Rose gold is here to stay.

Trend spotted by Kelsey Kukal-Keeton from KKD Beauty Cafe

“Makeup is pretty much always a soft romantic look, Some brides push for a little more of a smoky edge. Rose golds, golds, and matte pinks and browns tend to be the most requested. I typically always throw in a little warmth to eye makeup or a complimentary color to the bride’s eyes and color palette to push for their eyes to pop. While contouring used to be huge, I have found that brides as of late have opted for a very natural look that pops the eyes but still looks like a soft simple and natural approach.”

Domestic honeymoons are on the rise.

Trend spotted by Geri Jacoby-Smith from Adelman Vacations

This year, we’re seeing more demand for domestic honeymoons! Popular romantic spots include the Colorado Rockies, Napa Valley Wine Country and the Pacific Coast to name a few. Other top honeymoon destinations for the last half of 2020 include the Caribbean (many of the Caribbean Islands are re-opening and welcoming guests), Costa Rica, and Belize (a diver’s paradise!). And with October weddings being the “new June”, that leaves us with a lot of opportunities to have some incredible honeymoon destinations to visit. Crowds are down in September and October. You can enjoy an array of all-inclusive resorts to visit or perhaps a big city to explore!
