How To Choose Your Ceremony Musicians

There are a lot of pieces within wedding planning that require much attention. Your ceremony music being a big part of that, especially if you have chosen to use live music and instrumentalists for your ceremony!

Choosing your musicians for your wedding ceremony can be overwhelming, especially if you don’t have a lot of knowledge about classic music ensembles. However, we’re here to help navigate this decision! You will want to consider important factors such as the space of the venue, music that fits your wedding aesthetic, and more. Take a look at the top factors to consider below!

Consider The Space At Your Venue

When choosing your ceremony musicians, you will want to consider the space you have available at the ceremony venue. For a small, intimate ceremony area, two to three musicians would be perfect for this size. A string duo or trio would be ideal. However, if you are wanting several musicians for an elegant or grand musical processional and recessional, you will want to be sure the venue of your choice has the appropriate acoustics and amount of space for the musicians to perform comfortably.

Review Venue Rules Regarding Live Music

Sometimes you will run into venues that have noise limitations or even music genre limitations. If you’re getting married at a church, be sure to ask the officiant (if they work there) or the religious leader of the congregation what their preferences are on live music within their building. Other venues may have a less conservative view on live music, so their rules may be less strict on what instruments and music can be played. Be sure to still check about regular/scarce noise complaints from the venue’s neighbors so that you can prepare and communicate with your musicians!

Think About Your Wedding Aesthetic

Are you and your future spouse a little more indie or modern when it comes to your wedding planning style, or do you tend to lean towards more classical or vintage? The aesthetic of your wedding plays a big role in choosing your musicians! A string duo plus guitar or vocal accompaniment may be best for a modern, intimate ceremony while a traditional string quartet would be perfect for a classical and elegant wedding processional!
